Joomla is a free and open source content management system (CMS) for publishing content on the World Wide Web. It is written in PHP and stores data in a MySQL and includes many user plugins (components and modules) such as search, rich audio visual integration, access rights, customer data base, newsletters, e-commerce, statistics, polls, up- and download, forms, quizzes and more. It started with Version 1.0 in 2006 and released the first versatile version 1.5 with long time support. Version 1.6 offered many new features and progressed through 1.7 to 2.5. The newest version 3.1 was released in 2013 and offers the most advanced and up to date Content Management System.
We always keep track of the newest Joomla releases and upgrade existing webpages, if feasible. But we support all older versions of Joomla. Whilst upgrades from Joomla 1.6 to a higher version are usually very simple, an upgrade from 1.0 or 1.5 to a higher version is very cumbersome and demanding, since the code has been fully re-written for Joomla. We still offer upgrades but be prepared for an extended job, if you wish to upgrade from a Joomla 1.1 or 1.5 to a higher version.
If you purchase a new Joomla extension (template, component, module, plugin), be sure it is compatible with your version but also, if possible, with future versions. The official Joomla website uses the following compatibility symbols:
